“Croatia will conclude its accession negotiations with the EU, but membership will be delayed until 2011 at the earliest. The UE feels it may have opened the door too quickly to Bulgaria and Romania, and want to avoid a repeat. The pro-agrarian stance of the Croatian Peasants Party, on whose votes the Croatian Democratic Union-led government relies, could complicate accession talks. Rising productivity will keep economic growth above 3%.”
